ATLAS programme
A comprehensive examination carried out over two days and concluding with a review of all results by a single doctor.
An examination as one process, not a set of procedures
A comprehensive examination usually consists of separate visits: tests on one day, an ultrasound on another, an image on a third, consultations whenever the doctors have free time. The results remain scattered, and as a rule there is no one to assemble them into a single picture.
ATLAS is a programme in which the examinations are carried out consecutively over two days, and their results are reviewed by one doctor. The patient receives a structured report rather than a set of separate forms.
The programme exists because the polyclinic has, under one roof, magnetic resonance and computed tomography scanners, ultrasound, its own laboratory and a dental centre.
What the programme includes
Magnetic resonance imaging
Brain, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine. Performed on a Siemens Symphony 1.5 T Tim system.
Laboratory panel
From 48 to 120 parameters depending on the programme option: biochemistry, hormones and thyroid, lipid profile, HbA1c, vitamins, inflammation markers, tumour markers.
Cardiac assessment
ECG, echocardiography and, where indicated, magnetic resonance imaging of the heart. Doppler ultrasound of the neck vessels and the abdominal aorta.
Computed tomography
Performed where indicated, if this follows from the results of the first day.
Internist consultation
45 minutes with a review of all the results obtained. Where necessary, a consultation with a second relevant specialist.
Dental examination
A volumetric image, assessment of the condition of the gums and, where necessary, a written treatment plan.
Report
A structured document describing the findings together with recommendations. On request it is issued in German or English. Images are provided in DICOM format.
How the two days proceed
07:45 · fasting blood sampling, then breakfast
08:30 · magnetic resonance imaging
09:40 · cardiac assessment
10:30 · Doppler ultrasound of the vessels
11:10 · dental examination and image
12:00 · first results from the radiologist
09:00 · laboratory results ready
10:00 · internist consultation, 45 minutes
11:15 · second specialist, if necessary
12:30 · dental treatment plan
13:30 · final review of the results
14:30 · preliminary report handed over
The full report is prepared within ten working days and sent to the patient. After 30 days a remote consultation is available for a repeat review of the results.
Three programme options
| Option | For whom | Composition | Duration | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ATLAS Core | A first comprehensive examination, without a burdened family history | MRI, 48 laboratory parameters, internist consultation, report | 2 days | 2 914 KM |
| ATLAS Prime | Extended option: age 45+, burdened history, smoking, presence of complaints | Everything in Core plus cardiac assessment, CT where indicated, Doppler ultrasound, 120 laboratory parameters, a second specialist, dental examination | 2 days | 5 652 KM |
| ATLAS Roditelj | For elderly patients — a gentle regime, one day, without long waiting | MRI using a gentle protocol, 48 laboratory parameters, internist consultation, nurse support | 3.5 hours | 1 936 KM |
Individual examinations can also be undertaken outside the programme, according to the standard price list. The programme makes sense when an overall picture and its review by a doctor are needed, rather than one specific procedure.
The scope and limits of the method
Magnetic resonance imaging without contrast does not replace colonoscopy, mammography, dermoscopy or cytological examination. Early changes in the mucous membrane of hollow organs are not detected by this method.
If the results of the examination show that certain investigations remain necessary, the doctor states this in the report and specifies the recommended timeframe.
An examination is not a diagnosis. The decision on further steps is taken by the treating doctor on the basis of the data obtained.
